Moverman wins XC title

Oliver Ames senior Mike Moverman won the Div. 2 boys individual championship in 16:05, giving him a first-place trophy to go with his second-place one from last year and third from 2006. The Tigers placed second as a team, losing by three points to Bishop Feehan. Moverman’s female counterpart, Oliver Ames junior Jenna Davidner, finished second in the Div. 2 girls race in 18:25, falling by 34 seconds to nationally ranked Emily Jones, a senior from Bromfield in Harvard. Davidner’s team placed fifth. Moverman’s time wasn’t his best, but his strategy was superb. Instead of jumping out to an early lead, he ran with the pack for the first mile. He finally made his move halfway through the race, on a section of the course called “Bear Cage Hill.” By the time he’d emerged from the wooded portion of the course known as “The Wilderness,” he had a 30-second lead. He won by 15. Pembroke sophomore Ryan Kelley finished ninth in 16:54, while Oliver Ames freshman Drew Beck placed 21st in 17:22. Pembroke sophomore Brendan Adams was 26th in 17:25.5 and Middleboro’s Zach Maddigan finished 32nd in 17:28.6  “On Bear Cage Hill, I like to run the first half of it conservatively, then start pushing in the second half and peak over the top of the hill,” Moverman said. “That saved my legs for ‘The Wilderness.’” Said Oliver Ames coach Neil Levine: “He is without question the smartest runner I’ve ever coached. It’s like having another assistant coach out there. He’s a tremendous athlete, with a tremendous racing mind.”  Some of Moverman’s racing smarts apparently rubbed off on Davidner, as she ran a tactically-perfect race. Davidner resisted the urge to run with Jones, who is considered one of the best in the country. Instead, she ran comfortably in second place for much of the race viagra kaufen, and had an extra kick remaining when Hamilton-Wenham’s Emily Lanois threatened her in the final 600 meters.  “Today was the smartest race I’ve ever run,” said Davidner, who placed third last year. “I went out conservative with the second pack, and once I got to the hill I broke away and ran my race.”  Also in the Div. 2 girls race, Pembroke sophomore Heather Connick placed ninth in 19:26, while Oliver Ames senior Julie Binney came in 18th in 20:00 and OA sophomore was 46th in 20:43.7. Coyle-Cassidy finished 15th in the team standings.

Kurtenblog’s Free NFL Week 12 Picks - Revenge Games

In a major “get” for the KB, we’ve secured a special guest commentator for NFL revenge week. Possibly the greatest actor of our generation, this man proves that hard work, dedication and vengeance-themed scripts also, kicking villains in the nards far outweigh things like talent and charisma.

Of course, we’re talking about Steven Seagal. Sit back and enjoy as the man who brought you “Under Siege” and “Under Siege 2: Dark Territory” navigates NFL waters with his favourite theatrical quotes. As per usual, all home teams are in caps, with lines courtesy of Sports Action.

Cincinnati +10.5 over PITTSBURGH

Monkey: Hey, you want some blow?

Steven Seagal: Yeah, I want some blow. Put your hands where I can see ‘em or I’m gonna blow your head off.

Speaking of blows to the head, Hines Ward faces the Bengals tonight for the first time since shattering Keith Rivers’ jaw. If you think things have calmed down since then, think again.

Since the hit, all Rivers has offered is a terse “You know, you reap what you sow. What goes around, comes around. We’ll see what happens,” through his wired mandible. Meanwhile, Ward remains entirely unapologetic about the whole thing. Yeah, sounds like they really quashed that beef.

This has all the markings of a classic revenge game. If we remember correctly, Marked For Death ends with Seagal tearing out Screwface’s eyes, breaking his back and throwing him down an elevator shaft. We could see Cincinnattica’s defence doing something slightly less savage, like knocking out Ward’s teeth, drawing dots on them and using them to shoot dice. In case it’s not abundantly clear by now, you should take the Bengals.

Canal argent

Indianapolis +2.5 over SAN DIEGO

Steven Seagal: We’re outgunned, and undermanned. But you know sumpin’? We’re gonna win. You know why? Superior attitude. Superior state of mind.

(KB Note: probably a good time to reiterate that these are all actual quotes)

Somehow, the Colts have won three straight and played themselves back into the AFC playoff picture. Somehow, the Chargers have lost three of four and played themselves out. Need anything else? If so, remember that the Chargers - led by Billy Volek and Darren Sproles - finished Indy’s season a year ago. Yeah, revenge game. And if “Superior state of mind,” doesn’t precisely sum up the advantage Tony Dungy has over Norv Turner, we don’t know what does.New England +1.5 over MIAMI

Steven Seagal: Anybody seen Richie? Anybody know why Richie did Bobby Lupo?

[/beats up entire bar]

Steven Seagal: Anybody seen Richie? I’m gonna keep comin’ back until someone REMEMBERS seein’ Richie!

Ahhh, Joseph Eugene Porter. NFL leader in sacks (13.5) and grudges held (7,543 at last count). The man can perceive a slight from miles away. For example, his list of problems with the New England Patriots:

- The Pats once ran the ball three times to end a game, instead of taking a knee.

- The Pats once punted onto Miami’s side of the field during the pregame stretch.

- The Pats once shot him in Denver (NB: Turned out it wasn’t the Pats).

Problem is, Porter already exacted revenge for these transgressions in Week 3. Playing Mike Tyson to Matt Cassell’s Peter McNeely, Porter racked up six tackl

“Taiwan to hand out shopping coupons to boost economy: PM”

monetary times columnist lucy kellaway once wrote, “no management idea is too ridiculous not to be tried in day-to-day.” that observation may apply to cost-effective ideas as well. just last week, when discussing economic stimulus programs, i stressed that to be effective, they needed to lead to consumption. if, as with the tax rebates of mould summer, stimulus packages are used to reduce debt, it doesn’t help economic output. a reader then suggested that the oversight distribute wal-mart deduct coupons, although i jokingly noted even those could be hoarded and used as an alternative currency.someone in taiwan is plainly thinking along similar lines. from afp (hat pourboire reader razzz):everyone in taiwan will be addicted more than 100 us dollars in shopping vouchers in a government bid to promote the economy amid the global credit crisis, the prime padre announced tuesday.at the beck the scheme, the island’s 23 million people regardless of age or wealth will be given 3,600 taiwan dollars (109 us)…those people who donated their coupons would be able to file for tax deductions.it is expected to be implemented as early as january in time after the lunar unripe year holidays which will begin on january 26.”the presentation is aimed at boosting the economy … and is expected to contribute to a 0.64 percent increase in 2009 gdp,” liu said.taiwan’s gross domestic product vegetation is projected at 5.08 percent for 2009 according to government figures, after an estimated 4.30 percent for 2008.however, analysts and businessmen were more sceptical.”i can’t inquiries that the book require secure much impact on the gdp. if people can’t mark aggressive their ends meet, they won’t be encouraged to spend more just by getting the vouchers,” said johnny lee, an analyst at president securities…the vouchers, which will expire in december 2009, can be used at registered retail stores, supermarkets and restaurants, officials said.the scheme, proposed by the island’s transcend economics planning corpse, the council with a view economic planning and development, is based on a similar initiative launched by japan in 1999…october exports, the engine of the economy, prostrate 8.3 percent from a year earlier, largely on falling demand to electronic and precision products amid the global commercial slump.the figures, together with an updated imf forecast, prompted taiwan’s key bank to favour lower interest rates by 25 basis points last week — the fourth cut in just to a month.the international financial fund earlier this month predicted that advanced economies — serious export markets of taiwan — would shrink next year under pressure from the pandemic credit squeeze, forcing a new round of european cut rate cuts.the government lowered its money-making growth anticipate for 2008 to 4.30 percent from 4.78 percent, but an increasing number of economists and analysts regard the revision as too expectant given the current cost-effective turmoil.

Rick Renzi (R-AZ), A Disgrace To The GOP And To The Entire House, Gets Some More Charges

think way in back of surreptitiously to last february when a federal grand jury handed down a 35-count indictment against republican congressman rick renzi. he was charged with conspiracy, pretender, extortion, and money-laundering. he resigned from his committee positions and from his responsibility as a co-chair of the mccain in regard to president campaign and announced he wouldn’t total up for re-election and has since been replaced with a dull democratic litigant hack pushed patronize by the dccc. renzi was not kicked out of the family or brought before the cruel joke known as the ethics committee.yesterday a federal immense jury added 8 more charges to renzi’s case, including falsifying his tax returns and… racketeering. basically he has been charged with funding his political career with money he embezzled and then used his position in congress for extortion. he’s but voting in the house of representatives. and people inquire why the american general holds that body in such sickly esteem? it was ironic that all during the stump, while mccain was denouncing the bridge to nowhere and alaska political crooks ted stevens and don young, he under no circumstances once mentioned his indicted arizona ally rick renzi. politicians are good at that gentle of paraphernalia. according to the new indictments, renzi “embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from guaranty premiums paid to his South African private limited company to fund his campaign and other personal expenses. his company specialized in providing coverage to nonprofit groups, and stealing the premiums led to a lapse in coverage or some groups for several months, according to the indictment.”mr. renzi also is accused of telling two companies he would hate his position in congress to help them if they purchased land from james w. sandlin, who is also under indictment.but the companies didn’t know mr. sandlin owed mr. renzi $700,000, which was paid after the sale of the properties to the two companies, which are not named in the indictment.mr. renzi didn’t categorize that monied on his congressional financial disclosure forms, according to the indictment. part of that money was used to pass on struggling against odds the money he stole from the customers of his insurance agency, the indictment states.last month, mr. renzi’s attorneys filed a signal to dismiss on the constitutional grounds known as the “speech and debate clause,” which protects members of congress from prosecution throughout carrying out acts correlated to their assignment.his attorneys also argued that prosecutors improperly recorded phone conversations between mr. renzi and his attorneys in violation of attorney/client immunity protections.prosecutors have filed a motion conflicting the old heave-ho, and a estimate has not yet ruled.

Benjamin netanyahu

this year voters dealt with two other outrageously corrupt house members, tom feeney (r-fl) and virgil goode (r-va) but returned most to office, including don young (r-ak), jerry lewis (r-ca), gary miller (r-ca), ken calvert (r-ca), vern buchanan (r-fl) and tim murphy (r-pa) and several of the worst culture of corruption congressmen, homologous to renzi, are unpretentious– john doolittle (r-ca), vito fossella (r-ca), and duncan stalker (r-ca). william jefferson (d-la) hand down face voters again in a run-idle next month.

International week highlights foreign culture

To help students learn more about all of the study abroad opportunities, International Programs is holding International Education Week on the University of Southern Mississippi’s campus through Nov. 20.

Cosponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of State, dates for the week are set each year by the U.S. Department of Education.

“We use that as an opportunity to celebrate our culture and international education programs here (at USM),” said director of International Programs, Susan Steen.

International Education Week will show different facets of study abroad programs from international cuisine, music, and even presentations from the USM faculty members that teach different programs.

This year, International Programs is highlighting their shorter two-week to six-week programs that are generally held during the winter intersession or summer session. Most of the summer programs are led by solely by faculty members at USM and cover almost all majors.

Events for the week began Wednesday with “An Evening of Irish Songs and Stories” with Brendan Nolan in the Peck House Annex on Pearl St. from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The event is $10 dollars and $8 for students.

Lee ninjas

An International Food Fair today at the Baptist Student Center will provide a taste of foreign cuisine with food created by USM’s own international students. The English Language Institute is also helping to sponsor this event, which is open to everyone. A $2 donation is suggested at the door, said Holly Buckner, coordinator for International Programs.

Nicole Heads to School and Leaves Her Mouse at Home

After a night out celebrating at H&M, Nicole Richie made her way to her usual traffic class yesterday. Nicole’s still fulfilling her sentence and luckily, she has family close by to help keep an eye on her daughter when she has to be away. Her father Lionel is just one of the many on hand to babysit Harlow, which he recently revealed he refers to as “The Mouse.” A cute nickname from a proud pop who continues to gush about his daughter’s whole new world.
