Good Grief! Sammy the Dog sued over likeness to Snoopy
peanuts would have to one of my all-time again favorite comic strips. reading prevalent charlie brown’s misadventures till the end of time puts a beam on my confront. sadly, the innocence of days past is corrupt in today’s world. we live in a in the good old days b simultaneously where anything and all is patented, trademarked, or any other stamp of ownership with serious threats behind them (if violated). it seems samsung is in this very ball game honesty at present. they’ve just been allowed a cease and desist order from a simple unbecoming source. it comes from the charles m. schultz foundation, the intellect property owners behind snoopy and the ring.
in the press release sent to me, the legal spokesman for schultz states: “samsung’s “sammy the dog” bears an uncanny likeness to snoopy and we settle these matters very seriously”. many of you will recall that “sammy” is the cute animated dog that was first seen on the samsung yp-t10’s interface (screenshot on the right). while i do admit his similarities to the most famously drawn beagle, i find this anyhow to be completely horrible. samsung has been forced to not only compensate the peanut gallery for this “violation”, but have been studied to remove sammy from their interface. here’s what samsung’s pr said on that matter (translated from korean): “although we were not influenced by snoopy, we struggle to keep litigation and will settle with the charles m. schultz foundation….any references to the copyrighted material liking be corrected in firmware 4.01.08″thanks l. van pelt!
